Long Sha, 29, China, Student at New York University “Flag Day? I don’t think I have heard of this. I am not a U.S. Citizen, so I guess that’s why I don’t know about it or know how people celebrate it. I do know that the flag symbolizes freedom and power. I see it a lot, even when I didn’t live in the United States I always knew what the American flag looked like. Everyone here seems to really like the flag, so I’m surprised I haven’t heard about today being Flag day.”
Evan Foey, 30-year-old Real Estate Broker “I always remember that June 14th is Flag Day because it is also my sisters’ birthday. Every year, we are celebrating her on this day, so I don’t pay much attention to it being flag day. I do appreciate the flag though, because it represents our freedom and pride. I honor the flag all year long, I consider myself to be very patriotic. Maybe that’s why I don’t feel the need to do anything special today. It’s kind of impossible to fly a flag here in the city, but my parents fly one at our home in Massachusetts. I do have one on my desk phone and my laptop; I am very proud of it.”
Sabrina Guervil, 21, Philadelphia, Student at New York University “Todays the 14th? Oh yeah, I know that today is Flag Day- it’s labeled on my calendar as a holiday. Other than saying the pledge of allegiance this morning, I don’t plan on doing anything to honor or celebrate the flag. I consider it to be the most prominent symbol of the country though. Growing up, I warmed up to all the songs before games and sporting events. I know every word to America the Beautiful and The National Anthem. Although, I really have never flown a flag, and I don’t think I even own one. So, I would say I am about a five on a scale of being a patriotic person; ten being the most patriotic.”
